There will be no new material today and probably not Monday either. I'm in New York attending the Northeast Conference on Science and Skepticism (NECSS). I'll be giving a talk this afternoon, "Cancer Quackery and Fake News: Targeting the Most Vulnerable." I'll be back Tuesday or Wednesday.
Real life intrudes on Orac's blogging. He is not pleased. Such is life.
Fear not, intrepid readers. Orac will return in a week, as he describes here in an update. He has not disappeared forever, although two and a half weeks is a long time.
Even Orac has times when other, more important things than laying down Insolence, require his attention. This is just such a time.
Happy holidays, all! As I mentioned a few days ago, I'm taking a brief blog break for the holidays. I hope that, wherever you are, whatever faith you hold (or don't hold), your holidays are filled with cheer. I'll return either Monday or January 2, depending upon how energetic I'm feeling and what is or isn't going on in the world regarding topics that concern me.
Orac is taking a blog break to recharge his Tarial cell. Don't worry, he'll be back to lay his usual brand of Insolence down soon enough. In the meantime, play nice and enjoy the puppies.

Being the benevolent blogmaster that he is, Orac has decided to open the floodgates with an open thread. Create your own Insolence. And, hey, let's be careful out there. And don't push each other's buttons (too much).
It's the end of the year. So, before I take the rest of the year off, not to return until January 3, I thought I'd end on a happy note. What could be happier than puppies?
What the title says. The old ScienceBlogs version of Respectful Insolence is dead. (Well, not quite, but it soon will be.) This new independent version of Respectful Insolence now rises in its place.
…is right here. Right now, Orac is busily transferring content from the old blog to this shiny new location. Regular readers can probably tell, given that as of today there is currently nowhere near twelve years worth of material here. When I’m ready to turn turn out the lights at the old blog completely and make this the new official home of that Respectful (and not-so-Respectful) Insolence that only Orac can lay down, I’ll post an announcement both here and at the old blog. I expect that it will be several days, if not a couple of weeks, before that …
